Car number 79 has started 476 races and has 0 wins, 0 poles, 3 top 5s, 38 top 10s, and 201 DNFs in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Frank Warren is really the only name associated with #79 in the Cup Series. From 1963-1980, Warren made 348 of his 396 career starts in #79. Many considered Warren to be a brilliant mechanic and tenacious driver, but his lack of funding proved to be the biggest detriment to his career. Warren often used 1 car for multiple years of competition, driving a Dodge all the way until the 1980 season. In 1981, NASCAR required teams to shorten the wheel-bases of all cars to 110 inches, and Warren simply could not afford to make the change.
He drove a few more years in the ARCA series, but retired from racing soon after.
